Default Particle board flooring as benchtop

I'm in the process of building a workbench for the shed, Pretty straight forward just a fram of 90x45 pine with a Red Tongue particle board top.

I also need to build a smaller bench for the lathe. Before I moved, I had a bench made of 90x45 MGP 10 pine with a 38mm ply wood top (2 thicknesses of 19mm ply). This worked well and there was no problems with movement in the bench top

I want to do the same but using the Red Tongue as I have a spare sheet. Can this be glued together to make a solid top as I did with the ply? If so, what glue should be used?

I used pva and it worked ok for my lathe bench. I used screws to hold the 2 sheets together while the glue dried. From the underside so nothing is seen from the top.

Carpenters use liquid nails and particle board nails to fix it to floor joists, and being a wood based material, any wood glue is going to being sufficient for your application. Just use what ever you have in your shed )

My bench started with 12mm chipboard and 18mm ply as a top. Once that wore a bit I put 6mm tempered masonite over it. I am in the middle of refurbishing my bench at the moment. I sanded down the masonite after giving all the dings a fill with bodyfiller and getting it all nice and flat again. Because it was made with cast offs and some not fully dry timber it had developed a bit of a twist over the years so that has been sorted. I changed the two vices to 9 inch quick release and added another sheet of 15mm ply over the top. A bit of a layer cake but practical and now heavy. After all it is a workbench and I don't need to think twice about nailing into it or screwing a cleat here or there. So far it has seen about sixteen years of service and only owes me the cost of the new vices and a bit of spare time.

Col.
