Pete's New Bench
Well, it's done.
Took one month with the assistance of my son and my new thicknesser.
Recycled red gum superstructure and Cypress top.
The cypress top has four concealed 12mm allthread at 600mmm centres from side to side and is glued.
It must be around 300KG.
Next, drill for the bench dogs; whilst I save up for a couple of Hovarter Vises.
Pete.

Yep - looks like a good, hefty bench, Pete. I hope your vises fit ok - I like to have the vises in hand before the build. You are probably much more organised than I am & have it all well in hand, but I've had a couple of experiences retro-fitting vises to existing benches, and ran into trouble because things were in the way, or the apron was too deep or something or other wasn't quite right.
Nothing more satisfying than a decent bench....enjoy it!
Cheers,IW

I'm flattered.
Thanks for all the flattering comments.
Now to make up a jig to drill dead-vertical for the bench dogs.
More pics when the vises are fitted.
Pete.

That's one solid bench. Will take a good thumping.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Nice
The red gum and cyprus go well together
Just one question though:
Why such a big overhang on the right? (this is a question I've been meaning to ask of other bench builds)Last edited by Sawdust Maker; 8th March 2011 at 12:42 PM. Reason: spellin

Clamping
After a lot of research I took it on board as, besides the Tail Vise Ian mentioned, it gives a good unhindered surface for clamping on three sides.
