    Default Work in progress

In the process of building a proper work bench for my wood working projects so thought I would share it with you so far there has been a few blunders along the way some are noticeable and some are well hidden lol have been starting to use the bench as I go as I needed a surface to work on. Things that still need to be added are a vice and some cupboards. I am hoping that I can also fit a wood lathe on one side of the bench as I have been given one by my stepfather which has never been used and he bought it new.

Some more work on the bench from today this bench has not been made copying plans but my own ideas of what I want in a workbench.

Cross braces to support the top are in this time I used the circular saw to cut the rebates and then tidied and trimmed with a jig saw and a chisel the impact driver I bought yesterday has been rather handy for driving in those batten screws I changed over to from using nails

The top is on screwed down and trimmed up followed by a bit of a tidy up with the router and the flush trimmer bit

Next weekend I will start to make the doors shelves and sides for the storage cupboard

Every workshop starts with a basic bench and as time goes on we all build another and another, each time reflecting our type of projects, equipment obtained, etc. Your off to a good start

This one is going to have the triton MK3 butted up along side it to act as an extention table for it and one side is possibly going to have a wood lathe mounted on it but not sure yet as I may build a separate stand for it to maintain my bench space but all my power tools and small hand tools will be living in the storage area and the backs of the doors will also act as a shadow board and have small shelves on one of them for keeping screws etc.

I think that lathe would take the bench over and you need to build another. First few months I had a lathe it was on a board that clamped to my bench. Was always an irrit either clearing the bench to use the lathe or moving the lathe to use the bench. Life became easier when I made a lathe bench.

Second what John said, and my preference is to be able to move the lathe outside if the weather is suitable. The lathe is the dirtiest thing in the shed bar none, and that includes the toilet, washbasin and playboy calendar.

I see yours and Johns point about the lathe being on there especially after taking another look at the bench as I still need room to mount my vice, my garage is forever getting dirty but it does not have a wash basin, toilet or a playboy calendar (my partner would have a king size fit if she caught me with one of those things on the garage wall). I think the next project will be a lathe stand once I get more room in the garage as I am slowly sorting out the bomb site in there that I created by one of my where the hell is it moments.

Just a bit of an update I have finally bought a wood working vice and mounted that onto the bench and also got a shelf in across the base of the bench, still in the process of making doors and buying some more plywood for the sides of the cupboard area the wood in the vice that is clamped up is the beginning of another rustic style potato storage box the timber is Rimu (NZ native timber) that I ripped down to size on my Triton Mk3 and ryobi W840C circular saw and then planed with a fuller #4 bench plane I am using dowel joints to help hold it together.
