Thanks Berlin, that wedge system saved me about $2-300 in edge clamps that I'm not likely to use again for a long time. I will saw that it's worked pretty well for me, but you do need something stronger than a quick grip to make it effective.
Now for a quick update, ?I managed to get 15 minutes in the shop this morning, so I've glued on the bottom apron where the vice is planned to go. Next step is to glue up the vice face and trim it to size, mark up and drill the right holes for mounting. Drill the dog holes. Mock Assembly. Fix any issues. Finishing
Now I have a question for everyone. What do people prefer for drilling dog holes, spade bits or forstner bits and why? What are the advantages of each? From what I've been able to tell so far, the main difference is that a forstner bit will allow you to drill a stopped hole with a flat bottom, but as dog holes are right through, is there a need?
Also here's a quick pick of the glue up.
Cheers
David

I use a spade bit (new and sharp) for mine, clamp a backing board/block to the underside to stop chip out on exit and you'll be good.

well the fitting of the vice is now done with a few minor fixes needed to get everythin aligned. now its just a case of drilling the dog holes and applying some finish (paint for the base and danishoil for the top.
heres a quick pic of the vice which reminds me, next project is somewhere to put all the tools.

well i'm really aiming to finish everything by the end of this week and finishing with the finishing.....
so i've painted the base (for all of those concerned about this it's 2 coats of primer/undercoat) and put the first coat of danish oil on the underside of the bench. so with one coat per day, this should have me finished up by the end of the week.
progress shot attached.

It looks great David... Don't you just love the feeling of accomplishment when a plan finally comes together?
Savour the time now to stand back and admire it... before moving on/back to other projects/plans.
