Default Sealing smooth faced chip board

I have some smooth faced chip board as table top material for workshop tables - because it was cheap and flat.
I read on here that I should seal the ends to stop it from sucking up too much moisture.
I notice that the edges of the original sheet are sealed by whoever made these boards. Or course I have now cut it down and I will cut it again to final size later.

What should I seal it with?
I have some excess interior water based paint. Will that do?

Water based paint will help but not something that I would use long term. As mention above glue in some timber for your edge.

I edged mine with timber and sealed the whole top and sides with polyurethane - that was circa 10 years ago and there have been no problems.

Come to think of it I have a lot of spare polyurethane.
I have some pre primed FJ pine I was going to edge the the large sheet with. I could see if there is enough spare to rip down and edge the small sheet. I suppose I could ployurethane the remaining board so that it lasts until I find a use for it.
I was hoping to save up for a miter saw before I cut that FJ pine.
