Timber Storage Workbench
SAM_0512.jpgSAM_0513.jpg
I found myself with a bit of time on my hands without anything urgent to be done, so I thought I would spend the time doing ‘something’ to my workshop which will make it better. I decided on cleaning up my timber storage area which was creeping its way across the shop floor taking up more and more space with time.
I tossed around a few ideas in my head for a while, mostly thinking of building a floor to ceiling lumber storage racks which could hold the best part of about 4-5 cubic meters of timber. But that didn’t sit very well with me because I never have that much timber on hand at any one time and I really wanted another work surface/dumping-ground.
So I decided to build this timber storage workbench which can hold one cubic meter of timber inside it plus whatever I need to on top of it if the situation ever arises. I love it, I am currently building my next hall table project and this second work surface is AWESOME to have.
The lower frame is made from MERCH pine. The top is just a sheet of 16mm MDF.
Approx dimensions are 2400mm long x 830mm wide x 890mm high.
This picture below is what my garage looked like after I was finished making the bench...That is also what it looked like when I had to cut the MDF sheet for the top. It was a bloody nightmare!

Nothing much to blabber on about Matt
The bench is pretty basic. I promise my next project that I post will be a little more intriguing, unless my tools do the wrong thing and turn sliding dovetails into housing joints and tenons into dowels. You'd be surprised how often that happens around here. damn tools!
