Its still coming along beautifuly Groggy, how old is your dog now? You might need to get a bench pup by the time you're done. All jokes aside its a great job.

Haven't given the skew a run yet, planning early tomorrow morning before it is too hot. The Bergs are pretty sad but I'm determined to rescue them without hogging off too much material.

Sally is 11 now, she can't believe the bench has taken nearly 21 years (her time), but is happy to sit and watch and get a scritch on the head while I think.

I've got 3 Titan firmers and a beautiful 1 1/2" in Swan paring chisel with ill-treated backs. I'm doing the same as your are doing - working on them now & then. After many thousand strokes, the Swan is useable, but still has one severely duffed corner. I'm sorely tempted to waste a couple of mm of blade, but that will bring me back to a small pit in the middle, which has to be rubbed out, anyway, so until that disappears, no cheating....

That's enough off-topic, Grogg - now get back to that bench....

I am going to be a wuss today, it is 36deg and climbing to 41 (105 F for our American cousins). Since I am 188cm with receding hairline and have a shed with a low metal roof I'm going to park inside and sit it out.

I will however get a pic of the skirt dry fitted with the RH endcap - major milestone!

Front skirt dry fitted. It is surprising how much of the geometry is required to match up so it fits flat and square. The LH end cap is next. First to drill the holes for the bolts, then the dovetail followed by a complete dry fit and markup for the wagon vise screw.

The first pic shows the underneath and the other the top.

Oh yeah, now it's getting interesting! The next time I have a free avro' I must come and have a gander. I want to steal all this knowledge while it's still fresh.

If you get as anxious as I do during a complex glue-up I imagine you'll need to keep some blood-pressure pills at hand for this one!

    You're welcome any time Dave!

The skirt glue up will be done with kiwibrucee to help. I need clamps from all directions and the end caps MUST be square - it should be fun

I took the day off as I have somehow picked up a cold or flu after our few hot days this summer

Since there was only a little bit more to do to fit the skirt I dragged myself outside and sneezed and coughed my way through the final session with the dovetails.

Note to the sick and befuddled when in the workshop - don't attempt to cover your mouth or nose when you sneeze or cough if you have chisels in your hand. My innate politeness nearly cost me a nostril, or should I say, nearly gave me another.

At the end of a slow day I managed to achieve a very satisfying milestone - dry fitting the front skirt! I can now finish drilling the attachment bolt holes then work on the wagon vise.

Now that's what I call dovetails, looking really great Groggy.

It is a slow job but it will be done. That's what we are waiting for.
