Starting on the leg vise. At the moment it is about 650 x 300 x 40. When I join them the vise will be about 70mm thick and taper at the bottom. Timber is Karri and a bit of a challenge to plane.

It took a fair while to figure out the best way to plane it. High angle blade was the go and it had patches of reversing grain. Luckily I am going to glue these faces and they won't be seen. I'll trim them first so I can use the offcuts for the runner.

    Hey Groggy,
I noticed your using one of those veritas tail vices that can be used anywhere you have dog holes. How do you find them and do they hold the work piece securely when planning?

I like them, they are convenient. Wedges used to work but always seemed to disappear on me. I suspect the dog ate them. I also suspect it was the dog who laid an evil smell under my Triton dust helmet air inlet then bolted outside - but that's another story.

Where was I? Oh yes, the Wonder Dogs. Very handy and work best on boards that sit flat. You do not need to apply a lot of pressure, just nip them up and so long as there is no play the board is good to go. Boards that have a bow will rock around so you will need a few wedges (dog food) to stabilise the board.

    Hi'
I discovered quite early in my relationship with the Triton respirator that a well filtered fart still smells like a fart, especially when pumped up around your face.

Glued up the leg vise timber today. Tomorrow she comes out of traction, gets a shave and a few curves.

It's interesting you refer to you're bench as a she, like ships were, has she got a stable name and a racing name?

For me he just does not seem the same as she.

I guess I sort of grew up as she'll be right mate.

Simple answer: cutting and shaping a male leg does not appeal to me.
