Groggy they say patience is a virtue don't know about me but you have it in spades.
    Patience
"an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay: to have patience with a slow learner."

    Tis magnificent.

Tonight I finished the vise assembly by installing the acetal bushing. Its purpose is to stabilise the lateral movement of the screw. Tomorrow I might do the final adjustments to make it glide smoothly.

The instructions said to make sure the bottom of the mortise is flat so the bushing does not deform and bind the screw, so I spent a little while with a scraper getting it flat.

Finishing the leg vise is taking a while. I'm using a hard burnishing oil, shown before rubbing - that will happen in an hour or so once it has been absorbed. After burnishing it wont be as glossy, will not allow glue to stick and can be easily repaired if needed.

This is the same oil that will ultimately be used on the bench itself.

What's with the towel? For anyone else I'd think it was to protect the bench, but I seem to remember some comments before about this being a workbench, so the odd bump or ding won't matter.

    Busted!

Some seriously nice work Greg. Must give you a bit of a lift every time you walk into the shed, see it and think "I made that!"

Default Just the suede face to go and the leg vise is finished.

Rubbed in the burnishing oil, wiped it down then put some Trad wax over the top. A quick re-assemble and refit for a photo before tea.

I still need to protect the surface before I seal it, it's just raw wood at the moment so if I get wax or oil on it it may show up later.

The leg vise gives it a decidedly streamline moderne appearance You need a bronze lady Art Deco lamp to supply the light when you work and Maybe some appliances made from Fletty's bakelite.

Actually, the rounding of the edges is to allow vac hoses to roll smoothly over them. I noticed early on the vac hose ribs liked to grab on any edge so I have got a minimum of a 5mm radius on the edges (10mm on the vise).

I doubt that it will float.

I like the idea of the art deco lamp as well. This one perhaps.
Vice looks great Groggy. Any self respecting piece of timber would be happy to be clamped in there.
Those were the droids I was looking for.
