I'm going to keep the plans & the work that I've completed so far. I'm definitely going to make a more traditional one, and after that I'll reassess things. I might make it later down the track. For now I just want a bench so I can make stuff.
I do have a small wall mounted one that I'm using ATM, but it's too high, & it doesn't have a suitable vice. I built it for machines not hand work. So I might just end up resurfacing it (MDF now) to HW & make it high enough for joinery, & build in a good vice.
Sorry!!

Hi John,
I am sorry to hear that you are reconsidering the Jack Bench, but if it is not right for your situation then you are probably best to move on.
In addition to all the ergonomic advantages, I wanted an adjustable height bench so that I could match the height of the bench to height of my table saw. I only have enough room in my shop for one bench. It is very nice to have a bench that doubles as a workbench and an assembly table, especially when assembling large pieces.
I understand your concerns about not using traditional joinery for the base, but you are right when you say that the engineering is sound. Torsion box construction is amazingly strong and solid.
Let me know if you decide to incorporate any ideas from the Jack Bench into your next workbench. I will be happy to help and very interested to see what ideas you have.
All the best!!
Charlie
