    Default Wood Vices

    Hey Guys,
Has anyone got either the Craftright 175mm wood vice from Bunnings or the Tradetools 200mm wood vice from Tradetools - any user info would be much appreciated.
I know they are cheap vices, but it will only be used for light woodwork and I have other tools to buy.
    Cheers

I can't help with those particular items, just remember a vice is one of the most used items in the workshop one of the workshop foundation stones
and most of all you get what you pay for, maybe if budget is tight you look at a second hand Dawn

Of the 2 mentioned the larger one would be my pick. Sure they are budget but simple wind in and out so not much can go wrong with them. Properly mounted with wood jaw liners they will do the job. I would not go near a cheap quick release vice however.

Of the two you refer too, I would take the bigger unit.

You may wish to think about getting a vise with an adjustable dog. That is the little metal thingy that goes up and down at the front/centre of the vice. Once you understand what you can do with a dog, and if you have one, you won't regret it.

You can make your own dog.

    Default vice

I have a smaller trade tools vice sitting in a drawer which your welcome to if you get down to Brizzie at all. Might only be a 7" but it worked well enough while I used it. I'll put up a photo if your interested. Cheers Craig

Thanks for the offer but I got one already - some friends stumbled across one at a garage sale, tradetools the same as what I was considering.
It was filthy but looks new after a clean and only cost me $20.
    Thanks anyway though

The furniture shop down my street has several of those, mounted in a long row.
They went with steel jaws. They have wooden and carpet inserts with simple magnets.

go for bigger and strong one, you can buy one good with limited budget while last long, but not buy two just used within limited application like only light duty but not heavy duty.
