Workbench - clamping it together
I am about to join ends (already assembled) of a workbench with 4 , 2m runners -- mortise and tenons.
How to clamp ... I have nothing long enough .. first thought is pipe clamps ..
I plan to use screws in predrilled holes as well .... is this sufficient without clamping?
I just worry that when glue is on not much time to mess around and wood is heavy....
Thoughs / advice appreciated.

I did mine with two band clamps.
Screws may be strong enough, but be careful going into the endgrain: it'll strip easily. Could insert a dowel into the stretchers do you've got some crossgrain to screw into. Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

get some truckies ratchet clamps from the local $2 junk shop. I use some a bit and they work really well. hold tension and adjustable.
