My first post here. I'd like to start becoming more decorative with my turning - Is there a book or DVD you'd recommend to start off with? Do I need a rose machine and a indexing wheel?

Ah surface decoration is a wide vast area OT being a part of that.
Books there are many on OT as with other surface decoration
As for a Rose Engine no is the simple answer but and indexing plate/wheel yes.

I'll start with the OTGA web site which has links to Society of Ornamental Turners (UK)

Of course devices to do the work are required also not just the Indexer, such as used to form the patterns.

Bruce if your handy with machine lathes etc you'll have no problem or know someone who's got one that can assist with making whats required in the metal side of things.
