Where did you get that brass?

A subcontractor supplied it, but you can buy brass flat from metal merchants

Will you ship to the U.S.?

Yes I looked around, unfortunately it's cheaper to buy from the US or England than it is from here

The beautiful Aus made square arrived this afternoon. As it's a square my second thought was "How square is it?". For comparison I pulled out my BCTW AS14 (NIB) to see how square it is as well.

I lined up my tools, a 9" X 12" surface plate, Browne and Sharp 558 and 559 machinist squares, and a Mitotoyu machinist square.

Running through various checks I found the Aus made square to be a little out, with the included angle slightly greater than 90^o. A measurement of the deviation with the B&S 558 showed the deviation to be just over 0.0012" (the maximum tilt for the tool) over 8".

The BCTW, straight from the box was about 1/8" out over the length of the Mitotoyu square (250mm). Good thing that it's adjustable...

The Aus square is very nicely finished with brass colored anodized aluminum arms and is reasonably square, certainly good enough for most cabinet work. The BCTW straight from the box, yes it had never been used - I removed the factory packaging for this testing, is atrocious with an included angle quite a bit less than 90^o.

Overall, I'd have another of the Aus squares, particularly in somewhat smaller sizes.

Fair call Rob, I did check your square against a new Woodpeckers square and it was perfect against that.
The isssue I guess is what to use as a reference square. Thanks for the positive review.
