I can’t see any rules against advertising elsewhere and there shouldn’t be. But if this ad is accurate you can grab a new condition one for $600 which is crazy cheap over on gumtree if you are quick this morning: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/armi...rce=ios_social

Look harder? from here
6. Item listed on eBay
Gumtree, Graysonline, etc must not be listed for sale on Woodwork Forums whilst the auction/sale is running on the external site.
- However you are welcome to direct members to any external auction by placing a notice in the FOR SALE on eBay and external sites Forum.

Ok, well there you go, thanks.
Anyway, if you want a rotex 150 at a good price, the link above probably won’t last for long.

Just to prevent any confusion, or bad vibes - the seller has mentioned in their original ad (above) that this had been advertised elsewhere, so I will say at the outset, I went in with my eyes open to that fact, and wasn't actually even aware myself that this might not be normal practice.
I was contacted quickly after putting up my post to let me know that someone else had beaten me to it, and I am quite OK with that.
In the light of that information, and the fact that I haven't heard that that deal has fallen through, I will assume the unit has moved on to a new home, and will pursue other options.
All good, and thanks to all who've contributed here - Festool stuff in good condition always sells well, and this is a testament to it

Completely disagree. Selling on here is to a completely captive audience, and well priced popular items will sell very quickly, as shown by posts 1 & 2. Forty three minutes to sell will leave the seller with little to complain about.
Having it on another site at the same time just creates confusion as was seen after post #2. There is no need to post it on another site - surely anyone can wait 43 minutes without getting nervous and thinking it will never sell....
A fair and gracious seller would wait a least a few days before posting it elsewhere, or simply post it elsewhere and direct traffic from this forum with a post in the appropriate section, as noted in poundy's post.

At the top of each forum in the Market Place there is this sticky post:
READ ME! BASIC Market Place rules PLEASE READ
Not as large as the one above, but none the less there in all forums. It was posted by 6 May 2017 when we changed the Market Place forum and had been in use for around 5 years prior to that so it's not something new been in use for over 7 years in all.
The rule mentioned by poundy in post 8 above is there for a very good reason.
In the past there have been major problems with members saying in good faith they would take an item and paying only to find that the item had been sold elsewhere and the seller had accepted that sale instead of the one made and accepted on here.
There were a number of instances of this sort which is what prompted this rule and (I'm sure all will agree) for good reason, especially if you thought you had purchased an item you really wanted only to be gazumped by someone from another site.

That’s fine, its your site, we don’t have to agree its a good idea, just agree to follow it if we want to sell something here

Well it has to be said that selling/buying on this site is a very easy and almost always pleasant experience, especially when you consider that there is no fee or cut taken.
Sure there are no fees on Gumtree.... yet...... (now owned by eBay...) but it's rare to have what you could call a pleasant experience. It's just a lot more civilised on here...because of rules just like that one.... so abiding by that "rule" is very easy to take.

I think we need to insert the word "Usually." It's usually more civilized. I have been gazumped on this site and diddled by less than scrupulous sellers. I have been castigated for stepping in and making an outright purchase while others fiffed and faffed and said how much they would like it but were not prepared to commit. Rare though these situations may be they still happen none the less. Any rules that are introduced to create a fair trading environment should be supported and applauded.
One justification for multi site advertising would be the desperate need to sell. Despite the fact that interest rates are at an all time low, there are many folk finding themselves in financial difficulty with no where else to turn other than to sell off some assets to keep the wolves from the door and even the door is negotiable. These situations usually come with a high demand for expediency.
