Millers Falls Langdon 74C mitre box and saw - really fantastic!
I am continuing to sell off tools that I do not use. One I was in two minds about is this Millers Falls Langdon 74C mitre box and mitre saw.
This combination - the saw and box are original for one another - date back to 1925 or earlier. The mitre box is in excellent condition, only been cleaned up as part of a conservative restoration. All parts are present and undamaged.
The saw has a 28" long plate with 5" under the back. The saw was freshly sharpened by a specialist sharpener in the USA before sending it to me. It has seen little use since then.
The saw runs in roller bearings, and this makes for a super smooth movement. It cuts effortlessly, very accurately at all angles, and the finish across the grain is really excellent. Here is an example in Jarrah ...
Price for the combination is $450 (excluding postage). It cost me more than this. According to the 1925 catalogue, the boxed weight is around 17 Kg. PM me if interested.

You are a trusted source, anyone buying any tool off of you will have done right by themselves. This mitrebox is in beautiful condition. If I could afford it I would snatch it up.

Thanks S1.
It should be said that this is the mitre box to own. It is the best of the best ... which is what one expects of me, not so? Seriously, that is so. The only reason I am selling it is that I simply do not have the space, and I tend to just use my table saw for cross cuts. However, if you are seeking to set up a hand tool orientated workshop, then the Langdon is the one to have. The thing is, it is not available in Oz. Never has been and the number that are here are few and far between. I imported this one from the USA ... and you must know that the shipping costs are close to what I am asking now!
I do hope that it goes to a good home. So, if anyone is serious about hand tool work, do your research on mitre boxes, look up Millers Falls Langdon types. This is an earlier version, collectable, solid and accurate. They go in this condition for this amount in the USA ... before shipping. You can buy cheaper, but not with the correct saw (and, as mentioned earlier, this one is freshly sharpened).

Tryin' t' sweet talk me eh? (just might work!)
All right, nibbling away. Do you know the saw's tooth count, and any idea how it cuts harder burls?
I'll check my work schedule arrange a time to come look.
Cheers

Hi OG
I'll have to check the teeth, but from memory it is 13 tpi crosscut. It cuts smoothly - the example earlier was dry Jarrah. Much harder and I suggest a chainsaw
I am usually free on Monday afternoons and then weekends. Otherwise evenings.
Cheers

Sounds good. Probably be the weekend then. Might be able to make it down (up?) late one arvo though if needed.
On another matter, you don't happen to have a Marcou smoother sitting on a shelf somewhere do you?
Cheers

OG, that sounds great. You are 25 minutes up the Kwinana - I spent 25 years windsurfing at Safety Bay ... fabulous spot.
Yes, I do have the Marcou on the shelf. I'll sharpen it up for a play
Saturday is better than Sunday. Do you have my address? PM if you need it.
Cheers

We did have a great arvo. Thanks Derek!
And I suppose 'coming up to have a look' was a synonym for 'Yes, you've sold me on it, but I'll pretend I'm still thinking about it anyway'.
The Marcou is a beautiful piece of kit. I was interested in how different it felt in use compared to some of the other planes, but that's a full discussion on it's own.
Cheers all.
