Planes - jointer, strike block, smoother, plough
I am back again thinning the herd. These planes are all first class, even amazing. I just have too many, and need to let them go as I move towards downsizing as retirement looms.
All prices do not include postage. Payment by Cash (if pick up) or Direct Deposit.
1. First is this jointer plane I built around 2012. This is 28" long, made from Jarrah roofing beams (so very stable), laminated construction, with a single, tapered Kenyon 2 1/2" wide blade bedded at 50 degrees.
It is light (for its length), well-balanced, sets with a wedge, and is adjusted with a hammer. Here it is on hard maple ...
The Sorby blade has plenty of life (at least 3/4") and deliberately shorter to keep the balance low ...
Tight mouth ...
Price: FREE (Pickup in Rossmoyne, Perth only). I have decided to withdraw this plane from sale and would rather gift it to an aspiring woodworker. To repeat, pickup only.
2. Another plane I built, a Strike Block Plane (2013) - this is dedicated for shooting edges. The body is solid Jarrah, with a carved bed. The bed is 38 degrees, which provides the same performance as a low angle bevel up plane with a 12 degree bed. The overall dimensions are a 14” length with a 2 ½” wide x 2 1/8” high body. The blade is 2 1/8” wide, tapered and laminated high carbon steel. The plane build is here: https://www.inthewoodshop.com/ShopMa...lockPlane.html
The plane is an exceptional performer, and comfortable to hold (fingers hold the cheeks). The only reason for selling is that I have other shooting planes ...
Very tight mouth reinforced with brass inlay ...
Price: $195 Sold pending payment
3. Infill Bevel Up Smoother (2010). This began life as a Stanley #3, and converted to a BU smoother ...
What is unique about this smoother, which was the first BU infill I know of, is that the bed is 25 degrees. The reason for this is that I wanted to test the improvement made with a bed higher than the standard 12 degrees. What is does is reduce the wear bevel. The second reason for this bed was that the 35 degree bevel of the plane could be honed by hand (or guide) in the same way as any BD plane, making sharpening far easier.
The mouth is very tight ...
And the blade slot was infilled with brass to create a solid surface ..
This is easy to set up (it also has set screws on the sides, ala Veritas planes), and will reliably take gossamer shavings. Here it is on the reversing grain of this Jarrah board ...
Price: $235 Sold pending payment
4. Plough Plane. This is technically a Sash Fillister Plane since the cutting action is on the side away from the arms and fence.
The beech body is 8" long and there is a 1" skewed tapered blade. The arms are adjusted manually and fixed in position with wedges. Below the body is a depth stop. I have spent time tuning up this plane, and it works flawlessly.
For the right-hander, rebates are cut on the right side ...
Used left-handed, rebates are on the left ..
A cl;ose up here shows the crisp sides ...
The skewed blade ...
Price: $95
4. Scrub plane. This is a Danish, horned smoother, made by Langeskov, converted to a scrub plane by myself ...
The blade is by Mujingfang (possibly HSS, for which they are known), with a 3" radius, and the mouth was opened to allow for thick shavings. It performs very well - a light scrub plane one could use all day long without fatigue.
Price: $75
