Default AFRICAN STINKWOOD! Rare board. Old and dry

This is a single board of African Stinkwood. Its been sitting in my shed for decades so its time to go!

It measures 1520 X 150 X 30mm. It was once part of a coffee table so it has a few dings and scratches but it will clean up nicely. There are 8 small screw holes in the back where it was attached to a steel frame. See Photos.

African Stinkwood polishes up nicely - see photo of a knife handle I made, finished with Polyurethane. I wet one end of the board to give an idea of what it will look like when finished.

I'm asking $30. Pick up is in Oakleigh East.

If you want it posted, I can cut it up into 4 pieces and fit it into a 5kg post bag for $18 extra. Or you can arrange your own courier.

Any possibility this could be added to my other stash if it's not pushing the friendship?

    cheers, Ian

    Does this stuff actually pong?
I once made a drinks tray for Phil the Greek who was 12th man for City Tattersals cricket club.
It was in Silky oak and had a distinct aroma of dogs p.
    The corgis probably loved it.

Its a long time since I cut any and I didn't think it was too bad.
Here's some info I googled," The name "stinkwood" comes from a strong smell that is released when it is fresh felled."

    I also found this, "Stinkwood
is considered one of the most highly prized timbers in the world. " Maybe I should have charged more for it?

    Hi,
Yes, it was so sort after in the early days that a hundred year moratorium was put on it from 1875 to 1975 and each tree was fenced and labeled. I saw a few in the mid sixties
when I was in the Cape but I do not know what happened after that.
    Regards
