It's a light brown softwood often used in house building in wall frames. Not recommended for ceiling or areas under stress.

Out of curiosity does it have any decorative purposes for say boxmaking or shelving

I went out to see Jack on Thursday

he has alot of timber under cover - I picked up a length of 8 x 2 hardwood. Blackbutt he said. More there up to 5m long. He's a former builder and this is the stockpile. If you're after some well seasoned wood go see him.

It's rough and needs to go through the thicknesser a couple of times but should be perfect for what I want

I didn't see the Canada Pine but he said its similar in looks to Oregon (which he's got lots of)

He's also got an old metal working lathe, circa 1950s would love to have it but don't have the room and don't need another hobby

I saw Jack yesterday and bought some hardwood (blackbutt) to make a workbench.

As Sawdust Maker said, he is a retired builder with a huge stockpile of timber.

Jack is now in the process of selling the hardwood, oregon and maple or meranti that was used in the business before it closed some 20 years ago.

He told me that the all blackbutt hardwood is from the Buladelah area. It has alway been stored under cover and what I saw was all pretty straight and mainly in approx 5m lengths.

Since putting the ad on Forum he found some 200 x 75 blackbutt some of which I bought to make legs for my workbench - just $20 per metre.

Jack is a true gentleman and his prices for the timber are very very reasonable/cheap.

Regards

Therapy
