Thought it was time to learn how to make my own replacement handles for Stanley planes. Specifically for my 4 ½ Type 9 rescue project which only came with a very well-made hard-rubber low-knob.
I decided a bit of leftover ironbark from my workbench build would be suitable enough for a first run.
Turned out quite lovely I think (although my low-knob is a tad chubby):

Thanks to Peter and the Lee Valley stencils.

That is absolutely beautiful! The handle and tote look somehow ‘creamy’?
    What is the finish?

    Thanks
Just a few coats of sweet almond oil and then one of BLO.
I don't much like glossy finishes on handles. They'll accumulate dirt and stains eventually but I don't mind.

Hi same that you are in NSW ? Wonder how much postage would be on a couple of your shorter boards? If it not to ridiculous would you consider posting a couple of nicely figured ones? Really love ironbark when i lived in Chinchilla 😀
