Decided to sell whats left of them

This doesn't look like Mahogany to me.
Niether real Mahogany or Oz hardwood of that name.
It may be Western Red Cedar or Oregon, post under the timber section for one of the experts to identify it.
Im not saying anything about the price or quality, it just isn't Mahogany.

    Hi Tony,
You recall the stamp on the of the wood was CDC .....

It is Red Cedar ... also known as Indian Mahogany ....

I guess the reference to mahogany comes about because ..........

"Toona ciliata is a forest tree in the mahogany family which grows throughout southern Asia from Afghanistan to Papua New Guinea and Australia.[2][3] It is commonly known as the red cedar (a name shared by other trees), toon or toona (also applied to other members of the genus Toona), Australian redcedar,[4] Burma cedar, Indian cedar, Moulmein cedar or the Queensland red cedar. It is also known as Indian mahogany

    Regards

    Rob

PS Carol appreciated the turned pot

    Hi Toymaker

I am still not sure what the timber is ... It has a CNF stamp on the ends ,.... here are some later pics ... It has no smell ... and is smooth as silk to feel.

Some straight grain ... some wicked ..

    Regards

This is Oregon/Douglas Fir. I would bet my left one that the timber in this thread is not Oregon. I would bet them both but I lost the right one in a bet last week.

Hmmm...your lucky you still have one, my wife took mine away!

I have some really old cedar I got many, many years ago from Wally, the owner of Miglas Joinery, and the grain looks pretty identical. I've not normally seen oregon with such tight ring patterns?

    cheers, Ian

Here is a bigger piece of quarter-sawn Oregon I have in the shed.

    20170921_212324.jpg

Look at the variation of the growth rings. The wide ones are near the centre of the tree. I think I have other examples where the ring pattern is even tighter

    Cheers
