Dusteater, the thing that stops me buying any of your boxmaking pieces is the "x 15". Don't you ever have thicker pieces?
I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

I'll jump in, 25mm thickness allows re-sawing giving boards for box making around 10mm, with the grain wrapping around.
at 15mm, the boards can't easily be resawn to a usable thickness, so they can only be used for top or base or veneers.
I'm sure others have different opinions on ideal thickness, but I suspect 25mm suits a lot of box makers

What Jeffen said, in both posts.
Matching the grain in all four corners is impossible unless you can resaw. Even 25mm is a bit thin. I would rather have a bit of excess that when cut off could become dividers or even a lid veneer for either inside or outside as well as getting nice box sides out of a given piece. I would be far more likelyto buy 30mm than 25 on impulse.
!5mm obviously suits a lot of people as there are plenty of buyers for your stuff Dusteater, so it is a matter of style or possibly even having the capacity to resaw. I might even make a post in the box making forum and find out some opinions of what people do with 15mm stock and whether they can resaw bigger if they got it. It might help us all to understand better how others are working. For all we know people might be making cheeseboards out of it.
Having said that, I still have quite a bit of the fantastic stuff you brought over for me when you did your road trip so no hurry at the moment. It just stops me buying any nice stuff I see just on spec.I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

I won’t be using these ones for boxes, they will serve the rest of their life as fretboards for ukuleles. Just saying [emoji1]

30 mm will cut my sawing in half.., maybe one solid block for those that can resaw.

What size do you usually mill the billets to?

While not ideal i have no problem with the 15mm boards. Started a box today with 14mm sides that will have the same thickness lift off lid. Re sawing 15mm is only good for box lids or small size boxes as slicing in half will get at best 6mm.
30-32mm at the usual 400 long would be ideal for me.

These pieces of timber turned up within the week that David sent them, thanks heaps! They have beautiful figure in all of them, I can’t wait to get a piece of it cut down for a fretboard. Will keep an eye out for more too! Thanks again David, top work! Cheers Cal
