Thread: WANTED new zealand swamp kauri, or ancient kauri

I bought some Ancient Kauri from a miller in Qld a couple of years ago. I forget who, try googling Ancient Kauri in Queensland.
How much of it are you wanting?

How much is a fair bit? Section sizes or cubic volume will help. You may well be surprised.

There was a guy on here a few years ago Spiritflutes, who brought a container load in from NZ. Not sure what happened to him.

depending on price but anything from a few pieces up to 2 or 3 cube of varying sizes .google isnt coming up with much info from nz and from what i can gather only wood from stump area and roots can be exported unless its in a made form ,allthough the chinese seem to be getting around this by sanding slabs and calling then table tops

Check the NZ export restrictions on ancient swamp kauri, may be why you are having trouble sourcing some. If you want high quality bowl blanks etc try Rick Taylor at Dargaville or Ancinent Kauri Kingdom up at Awanui. A couple of cube will set you back a few $$$$, like mega $$$$.

I get it gifted to me all the time, just got given about 20 mtrs of 8x1.5 just the other day. Given it's coated in multi coloured bog, having spent a majority of it's life as a work bench in a panel beaters....but inside it is full of ancient Kauri goodness. If you buy from a timber outlet be prepared to sell your soul for it....but if you're not in a hurry and have friends in NZ, get them to put a search on tradeMe and check the local papers. Northland is definitely the place to be for Kauri.
