    Default Kumiko Jigs

Wondering if anyone has any Kumiko Jigs available they would like to move to a new home.

    Interested in:
    - Asa-no-ha jigs
    - 30/60 jig
    - planing jig to make the strips

    Thanks,
    Derek.

Desmond King has written four books on Kumiko and Shoji; all books contains plans for the jigs you need for each level of complexity but book 1 is all you need to get started.

As for making the strips, I use a Bridge City HP8 block plane to thickness them. For making the frames and half lap joint etc I cheat a little bit and use a cross-cut sled on an old cheap contractors saw fitted with 4mm flat topped blade from Timbecon.

Here is an Asa-No-Ha trivet I made from Ceylon ebony, the pieces are 4mm thick and 14mm wide.

    Hi Derek,

For the planing jig start at the 2 minute mark in this video, simple to make and very effective.

When making mine I chose one of my lesser utilised planes (a Stanley 6) and sized the jig to suit that.

    Hope this helps, Jeff
