Lie Nielsen 101
I am wondering if anyone has a Lie Nielsen 101 Violin Makers Block Plane that they no longer want and want to sell. If yes please contact me with a price. Pick up if near or postage to Hamilton Vic, 3300.

Another option?
Not quite as pretty or well finished, but McJing up in Sydney sell a Luban 101 copy.
Luban Bronze Block Plane
I've had one for around 3 years - works fine, adjustment mechanism isn't as sweet as a LN but it does do the job.

Thanks for the reply but I will see what is available here in Australia first due to the added postage from the USA and seeing you have only 2 posts, I really don't know who you are either. Sorry.

Still on the hunt for a Lie Nielsen 101 Violin makers plane. I see they are available in stock new at $179 plus postage but I'm seeking a pre owned one to go with my others. (to fill the gap and to save a few dollars too)

Col, I have owned a LN #101. It is a very nice plane, but I needed to modify mine as the mouth was larger than I wanted. Apparently all come this way, with the exception of a special order with a tighter mouth. This mod was offered after I brought the issue to the attention of LN. I sold the modified #101 only because I came into the Veritas for road testing. I liked it so much more, that I went out and purchased the Anniversary (stainless steel) version. The LN #101 remains a very nice plane, however the Veritas is better in a number of ways (proper Norris adjuster, better steel, more ergonomic).
Lower two planes ....
The bed of the LN received a layer of brass shim. This raised the blade and closed the mouth (I bet you cannot see this ) ...
This may offer you an alternative.

Thanks for the reply and the info Derek. I am looking specifically for the Lie Nielsen plane to compliment the collection of Lie Nielsen planes I have gathered over the years. I previously had a huge collection of various makers tools which I sold off. Other than a few, nearly all of my hand tools are now Lie Nielsen. I like the feel and look of them. There are many tools that are better and many more that are worse. Most of mine have been purchased second hand and I use them where I can. I don't just collect for display purposes. Covid has caused a huge delay in my new shed expansion at our new place here so I have been filling some Lie Nielsen gaps while waiting to get back onto the tools.

Yes as I mentioned above. $179 plus post. There is a world wide shortage of L N tools. Go and have a look at the price gouging going on over on ebay. Surely people are not seriously thinking that they will get some of the asking prices there. I certainly wouldn't be paying them.

Highly doubt you are really going to save anything much on a secondhand one ATM.
