Default Wanted. Purple Gidgee for plane making.

    Hi All

I am looking for a small supply of Purple Gidgee. I wish to make infill planes, pens and other small items.
I live in far north Queensland but willing to pay freight charges for the right pieces.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about Acacia crombiei (what I call Pink Gidgee)?

If so I have a number of smallish logs (100-150 dia x 300-500 long) all air drying for over 10 years. Let me know ASAP, I leave in 2 weeks to head west, and I'll get you some prices.

I'd also be interested in some pieces of this timber if available.
Generally for small items but large is okay too.....

Sorry Phil, plus others interested in what I had who PM'd me, Jack has arranged to buy it all. I'll have to dig around my stacks and see if I can find more

Well, I hope he shows us what he made of them, indeed, taking it all.

    Hey All,

Arrgh is very close to the mark. . With work commitments I get a couple of hours a week if I'm lucky.
Would it be considered an antique plane if it takes me 20 years to make it?
A fisherman standing on a river bank not catching fish is loitering,
And a woodworker who is not working wood is a hoarder.

    Just call me a hoarder.......

    Wait on!

You say hoarder like it's a bad thing? ;-)

    cheers, Ian

The perception of hoarding is gender specific.
I truly believe i am investing in my future. Wood working is beneficial to mind, body and soul.
My wife however believes i am hoarding firewood. Hahaha

My son thought the same thing when he suggested they have a bonfire when I'm gone to clean up the place. But then I showed him my $1000 piece of Snakewood, and told him there would be $40K worth of timber here, so pretty expensive bonfire

...but it doesn't count unless he said yeah OK, we won't have a bonfire, just a sale.

Guilio Marcolongo still calls it wake wood. Use it while you can Neil!

Or you could go out in style - a Norse funeral pyre from your wood stash out in CQ or WQ. All your woodie mates would be sure to shed a tear or two.

I maybe able to provide some if anyone is interested. Pickup from Warragul preferred but can bring some to Melb for pickup.
PM me with your wishes sizes etc. but I’m away from home at moment & back in about a week.
    Have half snakewood too.
