WTB: METAL MILL, Head Only

Hi Tom and Welcome. You might be better off asking in the Metalwork Forum for this. When asking for bits and pieces or information, it would be best to add a pic or two, so that you could be given a decent answer?? Some people, if reading your request, don't see a pic to work from, ignore the posting/thread.
What is the X and Y table off of, or is it the type used on a drill press??
If it's the type used for a drill press? I'd look at something more robust, as they're designed to go under a DP for accurate location of holes being drilled.
There is a lot of force being used, which is why drill presses don't make good milling machines, as the quill bearing isn't designed for sideways thrust. They might be OK for a few jobs, then start to give trouble!!!!
You'd need to spend around $1000 upwards for a mill, at that starting price it would be OK for a learner, it would be pretty well clapped out, I know because I've been looking for one also.
