I bought a shed
Thanks to Bob Carter and SWMBO, I take possession of my new shed tomorrow and I've learned a bit about Victoria along the way. I tell people, "I bought a shed and SWMBO bought a house".
In October I answered an ad in the Market Place for some timber that Bob was selling. I thought East Gippsland was just out of Melbourne!!! Silly me!
SWMBO and I made it a 3 day trip to visit friends in Melbourne with a day to drive out East to enjoy Bob's, and his wife's, hospitality. We were both blown away by Bob's shed. Now 900km each way gives a long time together in a car to have few conversations. On the way home SWMBO kept talking about Bob's shed and then surprised me with, "You really do need a new shed for your retirement". (Next July)
In November, we found a property for sale 200 metres from our existing home. It was a builder's own residence so he erected the shed to store his building materials. It is 12M X 6M (40 ft X 20 ft), 3 metres high at the side walls but only has minimal power points. My current shed is 5M X 3.5M (15ft X 10ft), so I think I will notice a difference. We begin the move tomorrow, then the fun starts.
The attached photo was lifted from the C21 advert for the property sale.

No matter how big it is, it's never big enough. We moved from Sydney to Macksville a few months ago to a place with a shed that's bigger than our old house, at around 100sq m. Problem is with a car, 4X4 & a boat in there, there's not much room left.

Hi woodPixel,
I am moving my stock of timber in tomorrow, then some excess furniture ready for our garage sale. One of my Godsons is coming in January to install a cantilever rack to store the timber (he deals in racking systems and forklifts). I want to buy a combo pj/thicknesser and upgrade the power, then its a matter of making a bench to put my smaller machinery on and setting up the 2 ex-school benches and other machinery and tools. I guess I will be shuffling things around or a while until I arrive at the layout than suits.
I have also taken note of what others have said in this forum about lighting, so I will have a good look at that aspect.
Unfortunately, a lot of room will be taken up with storage. For example, I want to give my 3 trunks of vintage woodworking tools to one of my sons, but he wants me to store them.
I will keep photos coming and seek advice as the move progresses.

Hi lovetoride (Jane),
You are absolutely correct. After 39 years of marriage we are quite used to each other and make a good team, more often than not, having the same thoughts .

Nice size shed.
Thing to note is to have some sort of plan and try not to keep everything on the floor. Does not matter what size shed you have better to use the vertical space as much as possible.

Photos marked 3 to 6 are the blank canvas. Photo 7 is the start of the shift.
I began moving my timber yesterday. I've found lengths I didn't know I had. I don't know the species of some of the stuff I have had clamped up for the last 15 years. Some of it looks a bit like Huon but it seems a bit dry and doesn't have that distinctive smell.
Half of my time is being spent on removing accumulated dust from trays and boxes. It is amazing how many tools that one collects along the way that are never unpacked and used.
