I've the teknatool chucks and am happy with them though quality has lapsed a bit in the last few years
what I've seen of the Vicmarc chucks is that they are really well made
At the time I really went with the teknatool because that's what the store I went to had.
my reading of the cheaper clones leads me to say you get what you pay forregards

Oh and I meant to say the refurbs are going great - good job
on the chisels - don't be afraid to take the handles off - they are probably a bit short anyway
I suppose the question is are they HSS or carbon steel.regards

Cheers mate! I was actually looking at the chisels last night, will need to start doing something with them soon.
Just heard back from Vicmarc, talk about great service. They confirmed the change of size over the years and while they don't stock the 7/8" tool rests they are happy to make me some. Ordered a 200mm and 400mm, just waiting to hear back on pricing.

Pricing is quite fair for the tool rests. I ordered 200mm and 400mm rests, and theyre around the $50 mark give or take a few bucks depending on size. Basically around the same price as the stock ones on CWS.

Productive day on the VL200! Tool rests, bearings and a new live centre have all been ordered and I managed to replace the paint as well.
Also just managed to get first coat of paint down. Very happy with this Hammerite stuff, it is easy to apply without it running and from what I've heard it sets rock solid. The hammered finish is very interesting, it just appears out of nowhere a couple of minutes after application.

Well its looking good already in your pictures. Of course I should have also reccomend you try one of the other paints that I tried too - so that you could fully appreciate the differenece. You would have had to do 3 coats to get to the stage you are now.

Got sick of hand polishing, had an old 1HP GMF bench grinder laying around in need of new grinding wheels so I decided to turn it into a polishing machine. Made short work of the cam shaft for the tool rest 😊
Also laid down the last coat of paint on the rest at lunch, should have the whole lot put back together by the weekend. The paint isn't exactly a great colour match but the paint itself is excellent, once it cures it is really durable. Gave it a quick sand last night before the last coat and it burned through paper.

Dang. Just picked up the bearings from the parcel locker and one of them was unsealed and covered in grease. Now waiting on a reply from the seller 😑

If they are the tapered roller bearings for the lathe, they come that way from the manufacturer - packed with grease. The outer cup "clips" back onto the cone with a little pressure, in some designs - in other designs, it is loose.

Spent more time on the bandsaw than the lathe this weekend, wasn't happy with the hinged motor mount so I redid it. Still need to sand and finish it but much happier with the look now!
I also decided to redo the top and bottom shelves for the stand, made too many mistakes when I cut and drilled the last ones. No pics yet but want to try and get the whole thing put back together this weekend. Just need to figure out the final location for the motor and then drill and screw everything down.

Haven't posted updates in a while, been busy with work in addition to having the flu the last week. Managed to get the motor tensioning on the bandsaw working last weekend and now I'm just working out the final location for the bandsaw on the top shelf. Actually very happy with the way the motor mount all worked out, I'm glad I took the time to redo it.
Should finally be able to call it a day on this soon after 5 months of work! Also have the tool rest for the Vicmarc all done, just need to reassemble. Will get some pics up of that soon, just been trying to get this bandsaw done so I don't have to look at it any more hahaha
