The rocks in the foreground is an old house site, along with bricks and steel and god knows what else! The shed takes up more room than my whole house block, could you imagine the fun filling it up with wood gear?? [emoji1]

Give it a few months/years and you'll be looking at putting a lean-to on each side to put more stuff in. No matter how big a shed you have, it'll NEVER be big enough.
You end up adding to the hobby list, starts with woodwork, then car restoration, because there's wood involved and a challenge, then metalwork, because you don't want to pay someone to restore the metal work and on it goes.

Ya know, 14 acres is the size of my property. With a realistic view a stand alone solar system is viable for maybe 30,000 and less if you can accept a different life style and dropping the city dross. Our home runs a split system (12v - 240v). We haven't paid a power bill in the last 30 years. Work it out. If you are interested I can email you a book -staring at the Sun - that I wrote when I was designing and installing stand alone solar power systems. It is a bit dated but the basics have not really changed. Included with the book are some short stories about living off grid. All this for the princely sum of Zip, Zero, Zilch, Nada.

That sounds good, will take up your offer of the book. I think it is doable, trying to convince the other half is the tricky part. We have to look at our finances/expenses in more detail.

I have thought for a long time that we as a society are looking at the 240v power system all wrong. In this day and age with all the items available to us off the shelf in 12v systems we could loose a lot of the 240v items we "rely" on and replace them with 12v items quite successfully. I am a big fan of thermal efficient housing, which there seems to be very little up take for within Australia. We have become so accustom to just flicking the switch to keep us cool/warm, it's crazy.

Sounds like a good idea Cal, only problem is getting wood work machinery in 12 V, besides little toy ones for balsa wood.
Wonder what size inverter I'd need to run a 250 amp mig welder

Yes tools are an issue, will have to learn about wood carving with a chainsaw [emoji848]
Don't fancy using old bow saws and hand tools all the time!
