    Default Gas Bottle Shed Heater

    Howdy all,

    Long time lurker, newish poster

I thought I would post the build of my shed heater - I did a lot of research and had to piece a lot together to come up with a plan, this may just help someone else out there...

Picked up a 70kg gas bottle at the tip sans valve, along with some other goodies. Filled it with water and let it sit for a week

Once it had settled down I fired up the plasma cutter and cut open the door and the top. I had some 100x100x2.0mm RHS leftover from another job that I cut up to frame the door. I used some 3mm plate for the new door and fabricated hinges from scrap 10mm bar. Used the plasma to cut the vent as well, test fit and sealed with firebox seal from BBQ Galore.

This has a secondary burn system that brings cold air from the back, heats up inside and comes out of tubes with air holes on top. It's made from 40x40 RHS and is operated by a rod from outside.

Chimenea tiles from Bunnings on a bed of sand prevents the bottom burning out and allows for fire / vent height adjustments. The test fire showed the need for a front vent, made by cutting a slot in the front, boxing it with 40x40 and capping the ends.

A temp gauge, a flue from the junkyard, a handle and some pot belly black finished it off nicely. Keeps the shed toasty on cold Goulburn nights!

    All comments and questions welcome

    Cheers Jezza

I have a BBQ addiction, if 14 can be called that so I have a wood fired pizza oven already. The 6mm plate on top boils a mean kettle and I cracked an egg on it during the test fire...
