    Default Getting excited!

Given I'm on a suburban block, and space is rare as rocking horse $&1@, I was most pleased with not only myself but the missus for accepting my theory/land grab.

We had a raised vegie patch at the back of our carport. 7 years ago when I was first trying to make a good impression on my now wife, I had it up and running and looking quite healthy. Given neither of us have time or Green thumbs, that was the last time it saw any love - or things other than weeds.

So removing the vegie patch, and building into the car port a little, and here I am looking at increasing my shed size by half again!

I had a chance to lay the slab this weekend so it's actually happening!!

Sure, it isn't actually that big, but at 3 X 3.5 m it'll suit my needs just right!!

I plan on enclosing this shed, and insulating it for sound and getting my dust extractor, compressor and a bugger more timber storage in there.

Guess I better start trailing through the 'generic 2 HP dusty' to figure out my best options (though its a bloody long thread so could take me a year or so)

Getting the timber and dusty outta my current shed will mean I actually have room to work, and start building my proper workbench, and possibly add a drum sander to the arsenal.....I can't wait.

The down side - I tend not to have oodles of time on my hands so this build could take a little while......

So it has begun. Today you crept into the car port a little. Soon you will be eyeing off walling up the car port, kicking the cars out to the curb and using the shed as wood storage. This is a good plan, I like it

    Fantastic diplomatic stance love it.
If you need some contacts for chippys down your way give me a shout.
Know this bloke who talks a lot always looking for work when it's a bit damp.

Will there be a shed opening GTG

    Cheers Matt

Good start but I have a question: is the level of the slab below surrounding ground / fences / structures or am I not viewing it properly

You have a keen eye there Ray. The next door driveway (fence you can see) is about 150mm higher than what my slab is. it has been this way for 20 years so I am confident it wont move any more. Where you can see my existing shed, its about 200mm higher but I left the old garden bed sleepers in place there and will build a small retaining wall before building the shed. This ground has not moved in the whole time it was a garden bed also so I'm pretty happy. The slab is the same level as the carport (natural ground).
The tank to the left is at the same height as the finished slab so the weight of that won't shift.

Basically I haven't disturbed any of the ground around the edges, but left the lower sleepers from the garden bed in place and used them as boxing for the slab so if anything I have strengthened what was there.

I understand your concern, and after reading through recent members troubles with similar problems, rest assured that nothing will move.

Kuffy, although this sounded like a very simple and well executed plan to gain some extra shed, believe me when I say I was formulating the conversations in my head for months before voicing them to be entertained by my wife. I have also strategically placed our bins in the car port where I wish the new shed to come to and they haven't had to be moved - this means that I can argue that if the bins haven't needed to be moved, that space can be shed.......so yes... I'm already planning that!!

Matt, there could be a GTG here again, but it won't be much to look at.....more storage and dusty.....but it would mean more than 2 people could fit in the actual 'workshop'

That's a great start but I'm betting that soon the extension won't be enough especially as you want to put a workbench and drum sander in the shed as well.

For lining my storage sheds I used a lot of old doors, picked up from hard rubbish, which is easy to fix to the walls and ceilings.

Looking good Gabriel. I love the way you plan ahead for the inevitable "justification" of the plan.

    Cheers

I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.
