Access wouldn't be a major problem ...most of my pieces are smaller scale nowadays..
it's just that I've settled into the available space downstairs..(assembly area included)
..My concern is that I could junk this space up in no time..and not make a visible dent in the crap downstairs...I'm just surprised that this big instant empty space is causing me such a drama

Once you start to use that space it will become messy. Then you have to look at cleaning up the mess. This is just how we built things.

Very hard to keep things clean and tidy when you are making something.

I would still use the space for storage at the very least and to ensure that most of the space is clear for something unplanned.

this is not a problem I personally have ever had
I'm usually trying to figure out where to shift something long enough to build the shelf to put it on

these two thoughts really go well together...
you had an original plan but now you've found a comfortable solution
you have an empty space and if you're not careful it'll end up full without adding value

IMHO you should revisit your original plan... a clean room is always useful
you could slowly move all the activities that don't require dust collection upstairs and see how they fit into your comfortable routine

Nice digs! I have no idea what to recommend since you're happy with your downstairs space, as-is.

The gallery/display space is a pretty cool idea though.

I reckon Undie should allow the real artist of the family to take it over after all her work on the big project she deserves her own studio workshop.
