Default Insulation question for the shed??

    Evening all

I have been able to find plenty of information on lining sheds. I have decided to go with Plywood for the internal linings. However the question I have is in relation to the insulation. My shed is about 8 x 5m in size so fairly reasonable and is timber frame, with fibre board (not asbestos) external lining. While it has sarking under the metal roof there is not other form of insulation. The frame is made from Oregon and is 75mm deep.

My question is basically should I retrofit some form of vapor permeable barrier prior to insulating the walls, or should I use a foil type insulation (perhaps foam core etc..) for the walls as given the minimal thickness (75mm) of the frame it is not likely I will be able to stuff in a decent thickness or R value rookwool etc..

I have some concerns that if I stuff it full of rockwool without a building wrap then I may suffer from mould etc.. in the future.

Also I would rather not have to remove the external fiber boards so does anyone have experience in installing a wall wrap on the inside of the frame, and basically running it around the internal side of the frame and then onto the inside of the external sheeting. I hope this makes sense.

Am I thinking too much and should I just stuff in some insulation and he line it with plywood?? I have plenty of room in the roof so that will take care of itself and as previously mention the roof already has sarking.

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Stuart

i went through the same thinking last 2 years and in the end did just that. I reasoned that for the previous 40 years I hadn’t had a moisture problem after painting the outside with a quality exterior paint. My fibro to has the “A” word in it so I like the keep its surface sealed and in good condition so it should keep moisture from penetrating.

I used 75mm rockwool and 9mm ply brad nailed into the hard wood frame. I had 4mm foam sarking in the roof but the biggest benefit came from lining the rafters with 20mm Foil Board.

I used 75mm batts under structafloor to line the interior of a steel clad shed with no condensation problems. Also lined the under roof with roof blanket (the silver stuff with insulation attached) the thermal improvement is noticeable.

I assume the FC cladding is sealed/ painted?
If you don’t already have any damp issues I would be comfortable putting soundchek batts in the wall before lining
Keep in mind that wall wraps are a newish item in building construction and there was plenty of homes built this way before its addition.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have well and truely been overthinking things. I intend on throwing in some insulation and being done with it.

    Thanks again.
