LED light panels - daylight for the shed
I was at a clients the other day and they demonstrated a new LED light panel in a previously dingy room --> illume Shaftless Solar Skylight and Led Panel
Its is designed to simulate a light tube or solar tube installed in the cavity in the roof - but as a solar panel on the roof (to power it), a wire and a huge light panel inside. No need for a big bulky tube.
Also for sale were ones that plug in and also replace the entire fluoro light box/trough and reflector... a straight swap.
The amazing thing was this thing simulated daylight. It changed subtly in brightness and truly gave the impression of it being strong sunlight behind an opaque surface.
I was wondering if anyone has these in their sheds?
...
Ive the LED fluoro swap-outs (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10X-25X-...T/291270683197) which are really amazing, but I have bashed a few out while moving sheets around. With the panels they would be tucked right up against the roof.
Any opinions?
edit: I wanted to add, that the light these gave out was genuinely amazing. If you didn't know it was an LED panel, you would swear it was just a frosted window!

I'm finally getting to the stage where I'm starting to think about kitting out the home shed, so this will definitely be a consideration.
What colour temp LEDs did you install, the 4K or 6.5K?

Im sorry if I gave the impression I installed them, I did not. All I did was make some new animal cages....

Apologies, I was referring to the LED fluoro swap-outs, the eBay link...

Junkie, I installed 6.5K Daylight. I had the batterns adjusted to run LED's by a sparky mate for a few beers.
Yes you have to get the Fluro batterns adjusted, but for the advantage of my eyes seeing clearly in the shed, it was worth the minimal effort.

Ah! OK, just me being thick. I chose the 6500's.
There are 3 sections in my small studio... 4, 4, 2... but I'll add another 2 to the last row as I like lots of light.

I don’t have the illume in the shed but do have 4x in the House. Essentially it is a flat LED light panel with direct power through the solar panel on the roof. There is no battery so it only illuminates when the sun is out and will dim when a bird flys over or cloud cover.
Its intention is to give the appearance of a skylight but without the shaft (including heat gain/loss).
They are an interesting concept - but not really suited for the shed where you would prefer constant light. It’s possible to purchase LED panel lights which will be mains power that will provide better light. Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. I can't comment on these panels but when ALDI had LED tubes I bought 10. I've installed 8 so far and I am so pleased with them. They're excellent.
I think you can't have too much light.
I've got 4 in the shed and 4 in the carport where I also work.
I am deciding where to place the last two. Probably in opposite corners of the shed.

I rewired all the flouros in my shed to LED ages ago and they work well at half the power. I also run LED driving floodlights as lights on my lathes too and solar LED lights around the outside of the house and shed.

While the "skylight" appeal in the shop is kind of nice it wouldn't make a lot of sense for me. This time a year the days are short with sunrise to sunset being less than 8 hours long and if it snowed would give nothing. I have 16 LED 4,000 lumen fixtures for my 640 sq. ft. (60 sq. metre) shop. The 6,000K light is bright and nice to work under. The house is mostly LED too and as the incandescent bulbs go LEDs will replace them.

I bought a pair of 45W LED lights with the idea of lighting my wood carving shop.
They each create so much Radio Frequency Interference with the FM radio in the shop that they are useless
for the application. Installed at the far end of the house is OK.
Instead, I cruised garage sales for swing arm desk lamps.
4 of them, each with a 9W LED light for each machine on the power tool bench.
Good light, right where I want it.
Two others for carving, one on a 48" arm so the light comes from over my shoulder
and I'm not carving in shadow.
