    Default Minor Shed modification

Since I had my shed built in 2009, I have been wanting to improve the removal of hot air from the roof space.

I "happened" to been looking for ceiling vents for a little internal reno of my home and found this.

Acol 200mm Black Ezylite Solar Roof vent fan at Bunnies.

I just spent an hour installing this and there is already a noticeable difference in the temperature in the roof space.

Thanks for posting, I’d been toying with this idea when insulating my roof area. What is the noise level like on this unit.

Like what you have done to make it a more comfortable work space, obviously one is enough can they be shut off during the cooler months?

Personally i dont have any issues'with a heat factor ,rather more of the workshed getting cool in the Winter months and feel it more so am thinking of installing a free standing fire place.Still under consideration.

Apple, what noise? I could not hear any noise and it is directly above my lathe, where I spend hours.

John, it does not get that cold here and I always need some air movement in the shed.

Does it have any switching capability?

In terms of temp control, ideally in summer it should turn on and vent the shed when the inside is hotter than the outside.
In winter of course you would want the opposite
When no one is in the shed, up until about mid morning the fan should not running as this just pulls cool air out of a shed.
At night a ventilation fan should run between about 3 and 7 am emptying the shed of hot air and replacing it with what is usually the coolest external air of the day.

A small mains powered fan on a timer would provide better overall control. A 30W bathroom fan running for 8 hours a day and 4 hours at night uses about 9c of power a day.
At say 250 days a year thats $22.50 a year - not that expensive when you think about it.

A fan that runs from a solar charged battery would be the go, although the price of a battery that can store enough power might be on the exy side.

Default A couple of thoughts on fan control.

One of these https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Digital-...sAAOSwhZdamQfO could work. The cut in and cut out temperatures are separately set to control the fan with relay contact in series with the fan motor. A seperate 12 volt power supply is needed for the controller, although depending on the solar supply it could come from there.

There is a solution for this, a smart switch with some programming for time and or temperature switching. I have a fan to blow air from the cooler concrete floor to some electronic gear at roof height that switches on when the external temperature is above 30 degrees and off when the temperature is below 30 degrees or at sunset.

Sure, not forgetting that neither the controller or fan would work at night unless the solar supply charged a battery.

Gents, I went for the mid range, there is a more expensive version with a pre set thermostat etc.

The one I have works and made this arvo's turning less of a sweat bath. I could not hear it, first thing this morning, before turning on the Air filter, Dust collector and roof fan. Of course, there was music added to the cacophony

If it gets to cool in winter, I can rig up a cover for the 250mm square, as this does not form part of my dust control system, purely for this little petal to remain cooler, while playing on his lathe.

I installed the same fan at our old place. As far as i can remember there is a model that has temp control switching.
