    Default Newly built chisel cabinet

Thought I'd share my recently completed chisel cabinet with you. Simple biscuit jointed pine and MDF construction, build time was about an hour. Step by step guide on my blog for anyone interested in making their own, and the magnetic bars were the Trojan ones you can get from the big green shed for $20 a pack of two.

    Cheers
    Andrew

I sold all but a few bergs when I realised that Dad's old set of Toledo's were every bit as good. Those arn't on the rack yet, I wanted to make sure the magnets held before risking them. There's a Berg butt chisel hiding down the bottom of the cabinet though just to make you happy

Paul - decently strong, yes. Enough that the largest mortise chisel takes a little effort to remove. I was careless putting the bars down while building and it took a few minutes and a large screwdriver to get them apart again.

I think I may have a few to many mortise chisels, but I seem to have picked them up here and there and had no idea how many there actually were until I gathered them up into one spot.

Very nice and neat, Andrew, well done.

How do you keep the rust off the chisels? A big problem here in the tropics, so bad I wrap them in a tool bag and put them in a closed cupboard in the shed. But I would prefer to have them more readily accessible like yours
    regards,

    Dengy

Thanks Jill. Beeswax is my rust preventor of choice.

Do you actually polish each chisel after use with beeswax on a cloth?

No, only after sharpening, but I don't live directly on the coast or in a tropical area so rust isn't nearly as fast as in some places. The beeswax did help protect a saw I lent my father and his garage has been known to rust a tool within the hour.

I'd be looking at a door on the cabinet and one of those moisture absorber sachets in with them if I lived somewhere where rust was more of an issue.

I'm not a fan of the paper on top of the magnets, and you can't remove it unless you want to expose a bunch of inch long magnets underneath, but they seem to do the job quite well and the price is decent. I've still got one spare, it may end up holding auger bits
