    One thing to consider with using a water tank to collect the roof water is that the tank needs an overflow connected to the storm water and capable of carrying the peak flow off the roof anyway, otherwise you will have hassles with the tank overflow causing erosion due to a far more concentrated stream than that off the roof. You also need gutters to collect and divert the roof water, and they need regular cleaning.
