    $258 for a 500mm x 30m roll

Just wondering if I should install insulation between the rafters as well?

My home sustainability course is coming back to me.
    Thanks,

    Good catch. Many thanks.
    Too busy researching.

    Now we're getting somewhere.
    Much appreciated.

I do recall in my training that roof insulation requires higher R(resistance?) number since hot air rises and is pushing against the ceiling.

    Walls not so much.
    And floors even less.

Spoke to kingspan rep who confirmed the retroShield is for retrofitting roof, ceiling and walls.

Spoke to kingspan insulation in melbourne.
The gentleman I spoke to didn't have a client who used both insulation between the rafters and RetroShield (silver).
He sells the same product in white called InsulWhite at the exact same price.
Also mentioned they don't do installs as its a DIY product.

Bunnings do not have the InsulWhite listed on their web site.
    Thanks,

    Its a timber framed roof.
    With just tiles.
I can see light between the tiles.
But can't recall the last time I had a leak.
    see a doctor urgent.
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Someone mention foil board as well

    https://www.kingspan.com/au/en-au/pr...ell-insulwhite

    https://www.foilboard.com.au/foil-insulation/

    https://pricewiseinsulation.com.au/p...50-insulation/

For my climate zone of 6 in glen iris - mild temperate or 7 in melbourne - cool temperate
which is supposed to have a rating of at least R5.1

    Insulation-
Use bulk and reflective insulation in ceilings, and bulk or reflective insulation in walls.

Because I am retrofitting the roof which has tiles on tile batten on exposed rafter already
I would have to remove the tiles and tile batten and place sarking down to protect everything beneath.
Then place counter batten then tile battens then tiles.
Then place bulk insulation between exposed rafters and reflective insulation (bulk and reflective are available as one product)

However, if too much trouble and not likely to leak then DON'T remove tiles and DON'T install sarking and DON'T install bulk and reflective insulation.

Don't place anything against the underside of tiles as its considered a wicking agent.

Instead install ceiling blanket with blanket batten or foil board on underside of exposed rafters.
Foil board has a ceiling rating of R2.4 which is half of what is needed.
The roof (insulation) blanket is R1.5

    whew!

    Had a thought.

instead of almost rebuilding the roof,
go ahead and apply sarking tight around the underside of the exposed rafters and the tile battens.

Then use foil board mounted to the exposed rafters.

    Thoughts anyone?

I initially used air cell insulation stapled between the rafters under corrugated iron roof and then later fitted 20mm Foilboard to the rafters. This made two air gaps and made a significant improvement.

    Looking for Foilboard now.

    Hi apple8,
What did you have before the aircell?

Was the original plan to use both?
Or did you try air cell then later decided to use Foilboard?
    Thanks,

Does anyone know if weight lifting rubber jigsaw floor mats will help protect my feet from soreness and cold?

Before the air cell there was nothing but bare metal, and did it radiate some heat on 40o days, after installation although there was a noticeable difference in both summer and winter I wanted to seal it off as there are no eaves on the shed which affected temperatures and dust.

The original plan after installing the air cell was to line with ply but I was concerned with sagging and loading as the rafters were 750mm centres. The foilboard was light and rigid so those concerns were addressed, it has good thermal and reflective qualities and I could install it by myself. On the downside it does mark easily and it makes a bit of a mess when cutting.

I posted some details in a thread about my shed upgrade.
