Actually I doubt I will be using anything harder that the desert timbers I love using, just soft metals like brass and aluminium. maybe some perspex on the milling machine.

It just gives me more options and opens up new possibilities. I could even make my own saw nuts now.

Nice! I have an optimum mill (mh28v) as well and have been happy with it. It's funny that most of the things I have made on it have been to support my woodworking (tools jigs etc). You'll love it. Now just prepare to spend thousands on accessories / tooling.

Yes, I bought the mill and lathe to support my woodworking mainly. I got them at the H&F sale and the tooling was also on special. Not telling how much I spent but lets just say a week ago it would have cost nearly $2000 more for the same machines, tools and accessories.

Come on neighbour, isn't that lot meant for my place????

I am hoping to have the crates unpacked over the weekend.

One holdup is my back is still sore from getting the heavy ones off the trailer, even with the specialized lifting gear I used (slid them down a pair of hardwood 3x2's onto a waiting trolley).

Then I need to shift a shelf unit so that I can sit them up where they will stay. Hopefully I will have the space cleared and the stands set up today and get the machines out of the crates and onto the stands tomorrow.

TAS (Tool Aquisition Syndrome) presents occassional periods of mental black-out.
Most commonly at the moment of payment. Since Doug still has some vague concept of what he paid,
other mement in the chain have dropped out. The crates alone must be worth good money.

Things do not always go as planned. I was able to shift the shelf unit and set up the stands ok. I even dismantled the crates from around the machinery. getting the machines onto the stands was a bit of a sticking point for a man with a bad back.

I decided I would get one of the engine cranes from H&F, the pneumatic over hydraulic ones, but they were out of stock until mid-January. I do not want to buy one of the straight hydraulic ones as the pneumatic enhancement would suit me much better with my back problems.

I came up with several other ways to gain a mechanical advantage using things like tie-down ratchet straps and ladder derricks but nothing seemed like it would be able to achieve the outcome without considerable risk of injury or damage to the toys - I mean machinery.

Anyway, the subject of my new toys came up at the Melbourne Forum Get together on Monday and I explained basically what I said above. The outcome was that Matt (Simplicity) and Sally said they would come around and lend a hand.

We offered them dinner in exchange for their generous offer. Matt and Sally came around this evening and with the assistance of Matt's friend who lives just around the corner from us, the machines are now on their stands, a roast lamb dinner has been consumed, the girls shared a bottle of Peter Leahmans Moscato and friendships were strengthened.

This is why get togethers are a good thing. I did not go there expecting to get this offer of assistance, but I am very grateful to Matt and Sally for helping out.

Here they are in the shed and set up:
