Looking good I have been watching and now its at this stage I have to say. At least with the TS you have you'll be able to now use it to its full advantage always not roll it out or like me have to drag things out to use other things and put it all back, weather no problem ..........well unless its raining cats and dogs or hail but a good ear protection will help. I guess bigger shed means bigger tools and more of.

FF- yeah, I'm not too worried about the grumbles about it taking too long. He's a big boy, and can manage his own time. I think he's just over it and wants to get onto the next one. Regardless, he showed up this morning, to get it all done, so we'll see what's what when I get home...

OldGrain - The dog is a labrador, so my guess is he's eating the parts.

Andy - I'm not sure. Technically I can't use it till I've got an 'Occupation Certificate' from the council, and I won't have that till the bathroom is finished. But that won't be till around March/April I reckon. There's no chance I'm waiting till then. My little 2 bedroom house is bursting at the seams, so I'm guessing after we've cleaned up this weekend, stuff will start relocating.... The big gear should come out of storage before the end of the year I hope.

Wheelin - I can't wait to get the Felder gear back in there. I think it'll take a little bit of shuffling for a while, for everything to find a permanent home though, so will temporarily rig up the existing dusty till I use them for a while, and am sure of the layout. Once they've all settled into a spot I'm comfortable with, a Clearvue will be on order.

Re the bigger shed meaning bigger tools - In addition to a Clearvue cyclone, I've got my eye on a new Felder bandsaw, and will be selling my Hammer N4400, so if you know anyone who is in the market for one, send them my way.

    TimberNut great looking shed.

Regarding the offcuts from the nibbler try getting a reasonable sized magnet and tie a piece of string to it so you don't have to bend down and drag it around. Its amazing what it will pick up.

If you have a Trade Tools anywhere near you this would do it nicely.

    Hi,
Put the magnet in a plastic bag, it makes getting the bits off the magnet many times easier.

Thanks guys for the great tips.

I'd told the builder not to hose the roof down (he confirmed that was what he was going to do). Nice of him to try to clean up, but I don't fancy those metal shavings pouring down the drains. I've got some rare earth magnets out of computer hard disks, that are very strong. Looks like I'll be getting them out, wrapped in plastic. What a cool idea !!! thanks.

metal shavings in the drains is probably better than metal shavings on the roof where they will quickly lead to rusting of the sheeting.

    to quote Lysaght's
Reciprocating nibblers are also widely used in the roofing trade, and they produce an excellent cut.
The resulting small, sharp scraps can rust and damage finishes; and they can cause personal injury.
Take special care to collect these scraps.

Swarf (metal scraps and/or abrasive particles resulting from cutting and drilling) left on the surfaces of materials will cause rust stains which can lead to reduced life of the material.

    • Sweep or hose all metallic swarf and other debris from roof areas and gutters at the end of each day and at the completion of the installation. Failure to do so can lead to blockages of water flow or surface staining (such as when the metal particles rust).
    regards from Alberta, Canada

Default The builder is finally finished.

I've still got to organise the electricals, plumbing, build the bathroom, line all internal walls, build a mezzanine floor, put some doors on.... but at least the builder is done, and the basic structure is up.

I'm absolutely delighted with how it's come out.

Mr FF sir, I've been envious of everyone else's sheds here on the forum for the last 10 years. I thought it was time I returned the favour.

I spoke to one of the neighbours last night, and thankfully he was pleased with the look of it. The dark colours mean it doesn't stand out as a massive structure in the backyard. I'm glad he's happy, but he's not even remotely as happy as I am right now. We bought the property last November, and one of the plans then, was to build a shed for me. Now that the structure is up, it's exactly what I've envisioned since I started planning it all.

Finishing all the finer details (wall linings, bathroom etc) will take time, but aside from sorting power/lighting, I'm in no real rush. We're just glad to get the builders out of our hair.

Mate it looks so good! I remember your old workshop and your frustration for the lack of space you had. Now look at what you got!

I got a few weeks off coming up so if you need a hand let me know.

    Hey Andy,

I'm sure my frustration at lack of space will return once I fill the shed and run out of room (doesn't that happen to everyone?). But hey, don't tell SWMBO. She thinks it's MASSIVE, and considering the budget blowout, if I even hint at it being too small I think I'd be a dead-man-walking.

Thanks for the offer. I think I may get stuck without being able to line the walls as order dates for steel from the suppliers ended last week, but I'll have a better idea what I can get done, after this weekend. Plenty of shed-dreaming going to happen I reckon....

(do you think I'm just a wee bit excited at having the shed up????)

(I hear my Felder gear calling me....they want out of storage NOW!)

    Great looking shed TimberNut.

    Just 1 question.

Which has the larger floor area.... your house or the shed?

Should he factor in the outside concrete area?
