    Angry The Shed Extension

My shed was 6 X 4 and will be 14 X 4 when it's finished. There will be 6 metres in front of the existing shed and 2 metres behind it, I couldn't go any wider, as it wouldn't have given any room to get into the back yard. The current shed is sitting on the ground with no solid floor, only dirt and carpet, as we are renting, and are now on our 3rd landlord, this one is our Vet and has told us that we'll be here for as long as we want, they're even paying for the concrete floor!!! BEAUTY.
Rear section will be for woodwork and the front for metalwork, which ties in with the woodwork, as I enjoy making tooling and other bitsNpieces.
This is what I "tried" to do metalwork in, a 4 X 2.5 metre area, or under the lift up door.

The area where the extension will be going.

A total of about 3 cubic metres came out, nothing at the front and about 300 mm at the rear.

    We're underway
    DSCF0540.jpg
    DSCF0541.jpg
And we now have concrete, at long last, if I drop a screw I can find it!!!!!!!!
The inside will be lined and the outside painted, as it's all made from second hand materials.
If you ask why not new, ask my 2 ex wives.

The items that were in the trailer shed are now in here and now to empty the other shed, then dismantle it.

    To be continued.

Then just watch all your "stuff" magically expand to fill the new space available

    14 x 4m is a monster shed !!

It's already full, with the machinery coming that's in storage, Horizontal mill, metal shaper, Hercus metal lathe.
There SHOULD be just enough room, provided I don't see/find/buy any more bargains.
I could always kick SWMBO out of the house, and take over the 2 rooms SHE has for her craftwork.

When I first saw this post, I was going to comment that 'you are about to become a busy boy', but now I have read the whole lot, the comment changes to 'you have been a busy boy'.

The only downside that I can see is that the concrete floor will be harder on your legs / feet compared to the carpeted dirt.

You are very lucky to have another understanding landlord. Enjoy your newfound space while it lasts.

    Kryn,

Dont bet on finding that screw anytime soon when you drop it on the concrete floor. Mine seem to grow legs and wander off. My shed is 9m x 7.5m and as others say not big enough.

Kryn, this "new shed" has been a long time coming for you. Take a good look at the concrete floor...... because that will be the last time you will ever see it bare again.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Thanks everyone for the comments. Biggest problem at the moment is, "Now where did I put it???"
Have lost a couple of pieces of tooling already, but found some that had dropped behind some machines.
In the process of making some cabinets with 4 drawers in them, one for the drum sander 600 wide X 850 long and 680 high.
Top drawer will be 100 mm deep,to take the rolls of sandpaper for the machine the next 2 100 deep also, leaving the bottom
one approx 200 deep for the sanding power tools.
The other cabinet will go under the drill press. The unit will also have 4 drawers also, top one to take Metric and Imperial drill bits, next one down will take Forstner Bits, the next one down Holesaws, and the bottom one various drilling jigs and clamps.
These drawers will have a U cut into the back of them to go around the column of the DP.
Cabinets are made from 17mm construction ply with 10 mm backs, and drawers made from 17 mm also for the sides and 5mm MDF for the base with 9 mm strips under for extra support.
Hoping to get hold of some 32mm old bench tops to go under the drum sander, and maybe tops for the rest of the cabinets. I don't want too many flat surfaces, as they tend to have crap put on them, the only flat surface I really need is a decent work bench.
DON'T FRET, pics to come when the drawers are made.

Been a busy beaver this last couple of days, Christmas Day I took the roof off and moved the sides and back about 3 metres. Amazing what can be moved with a crowbar.
Today got hold of a tracked Cat (similar to a Bobcat) and a 6 tonne tipper. Took away 6 loads of dirt and got the levels to within 10mm of required depth. Didn't think it was too bad for a first time operator, well actually, the first time was about 30 years ago and 10 minutes behind the controls. A very different machine now for then.
Pics will happen tomorrow, it was too dark when I finished tonight.

Looks better already Kryn, just for interest, this is what I did for the front of mine. The 2 panels to the right are fixed, and the other two slide on separate tracks to stack to the right, leaving approximately half of the front open to move things in and out.20180608_172518.jpg

Looking good, sounds like a good landlord. I do like your optimism, "if you drop a screw you will be able to find it" in my experience dropping a screw, washer, nut whatever on a workshop floor, is futile to search believe me, to retain you're sanity, just get another one.

Lord knows I have enough trouble finding things I put on a bench let alone things I drop .

    Looking forward to the photos.

Thanks everyone for the comments. As promised, some pics of what I've been upto.
Results of Wednesdays work, this was taken Thursday Morning.
    Earthworks done.JPG
Sides going up, this was all done by me. Typical of "friends who say "give me a call"" they're all TOO busy!!!!!!
    We have erecting.JPG
Side nearly ready for cladding, the cream door is a slider, which will be the main access, apart from the front lift up which will give some fresh air.
    Side ready for sheets.JPG
I've decided to fit a 1 metre internal sliding door, to give me some ventilation, plus access to the side for extra storage of may come in handy, or as SWMBO calls it "Rubbish"!!!! Now the BIG decission, do I put the sliding door on the left or the right????
The reason fo an internal slider is that there's only 800mm between the fence and the shed.
    Door left or right.JPG
The back is now back on, holding it all square.
    Back is on.JPG
Eventually the inside will be lined with 16mm white coated chip board and insulation, to help keep the noise and temperature down.
SWMBO doesn't like the noise of machinery going, not even a blower vac.

Got word today that the Concrete will be going down on Friday, YOU BEAUTY, its only been nearly 10 months.
Ended up putting in a sliding door next to the DP. To maximise the room/wall space, I'll be converting it into a concealed door, just by making up a frame to go on the inside of the door.
Will post pics of the floor pouring, Friday.
