Building the machines is great, the problem is people DON'T want to pay what they're worth.

Even craft items, people only want to pay a couple of dollars for, sometimes that won't even cover the cost of the paint, or the article before painting!!!! At the Day Centre where I help out, we make items for the clients to decorate, and are then sold at a Fete in late October, tissue boxes for example are decopaged and sold for $6.00, and some people will offer $3.00!!!!!!
Will you be making items like that, or flat board stuff???

It's sad that people don't realize the time and effort people go to in making stuff. I am not sure, i guess i will be looking to make high end stuff.....rather make small quantity of quality stuff than pushing out high volume... Was thinking photo engraving but to be honest if i can make machines of all sorts i'll be very glad/happy

Today i re-arranged my shed a little, also installed a ceiling fan that i had lying around....it really makes a big difference. I am having great difficulty in keeping the aluminium
swarf/dust controlled. Using a vacuum cleaner is just not doing a proper job.

Can anyone please give me some ideas of how to do this

    Thanks
    Erick

Hi Erick, I suggest that you start a thread in the Dust Extraction section, as you'll get some good advise from BobL and others. Have attached a link to one on Metal and Wood, although it deals with Metal Grinding dust. If you submit a pic or 2 showing your setup, it'll in help overcoming the problem. You might have to buy a dust extractor and plumbing.
Look forward to seeing what replies you get.

I have been delaying some work in and around the shed. Hope to finish a few outstanding jobs in a couple of weeks. Looks like i will be able to start the cnc machine in a couple of weeks. All the temporary acrylic parts i used for sizing/testing have been replaced by aluminium plate. My poor little 6040 is being tested daily...milling all the thick aluminium parts

Some might think a person could have a need for only one CNC router but the company I used to work for had machining cells where one operator would keep two or three milling machines running at a time making aircraft parts. Even for yourself the bigger machine could work the first side of a large sheet into smaller parts that are then put in the smaller CNC to complete the other side. Great tools if the work you do suits them.

True. If I didn't hate computers so much I'd have one too.
