    Default Shed questions

I need to build a combined garage workshop on limited finance so thought I would do a carport first and close sides in later. Also need to match house style so don't think kit shed would work.
Plan is 6 m wide by 9 metre long with gable roof. I also want to have a mezzanine for part of the shed (2.4 x 6 metre) for storage so I would like to have a pitched roof with 22 degree pitch and colorbond.
    1. so would rafters 175 x50 F17 be OK. Would they be at 900 centres?
    2. posts 100x100 at 3 metres apart holding a beam 200x 50 HWD.
    3. for the mezzanine what size steel beam would be OK to span 6 metres. I would have 2.4 rafters run into it and then yellow tongue flooring. I presume the steel beam would have to have its own posts for support?

any help would be appreciated. All posts would be on buttress pier pads 500 deep and metal straps holding rafters to the beam.

I would think 900 cnts for a colorbond metal is fine...my house has a metal roof and it has 1200 cnts of prefab gangnail trusses

Ta. Also wondered can you mix up trusses with pitched rafters. I can get some good conditioned second hand trusses at the right pitch but if I wanted a mezzanine I could not use trusses in the mezzanine area.
    Anyone know?

Presumably this will go through council.

They will insist on a certified engineered plan

Contact a local structural engineer and draftsman and do it right

Getting well intentioned unqualified opinions and advice will lead to trouble

The alarm bells started ringing when you nominated 200 x 50 hwd beam, doesn't come within a bulls roar of doing it and the nominated 500 deep piers would suit a letter box only.

Your proposed design has some unresolved structural issues which have to be taken into account

PLEASE, for your own peace of mind and value for money, see a draftsman, have an initial free pre development consultation with council then engineer then costings/quotes then council, then all good when finished
The person who never made a mistake never made anything

    Cheers

    Exclamation

Can't help but agree with RW.

Nothing worse than council knocking on the door because things are not right!!
