You can add bluetooth speakers to the the Echo- https://www.techjunkie.com/integrate...ooth-speakers/
I got given a Google Home thingy but I have zero trust in Google so it is still in it's shrink wrap. I'm sure it is still reading my thoughts through my tinfoil hat though.

I just found this thread and thought I'd bring it back to life. I'd love to know what you use for sounds in the shed.
My radio has seen better days and so my wife bought me a bluetooth speaker. I made a small cabinet for it to help protect it from dust. This was more complex than it sounds. I made a video about the build for anyone interested:

When the old PC I use for sound in the shed dies, I will replace it with a 2nd hand smart phone.
Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

An old used stereo. They can be had on gumtree any day of the week for the price of a cup or two of coffee.
Granted I only listen to the radio though.

I mounted a Google home mini to a wall and just tell it to play whatever suits my mood. Also voice control the fan etc. on/off or mathematical calcs. It can be used as an intercom to the house, although the request “bring me down some tea and cake” never seems to get through?

I have a Cambridge Audio amp fed by an old iPhone into Tannoy Mercury speakers from either the albums on the iPod or a selection of jazz Internet stations ...

Interesting to see the different solutions. My Echo is still surviving the dust and is really handy. Apart from playing music it's been really nice to start timers for things like how long my finish has been drying, while I have oil all over my hands/gloves and don't want to touch anything.
Only bad thing is that voice recognition for what music I want is hit and miss - 'alexa, play the beatles' works, but 'alexa, play 2cellos' could result in anything!

Internet radio stations are a great choice. I use our Sonos to switch between listening to the music I have put on the NAS, (anyone want a few hundred CD's in a Sony rotary stacker?) to listening to the internet radio and Mrs P. listens exclusively to single a radio station as the Sonos will play different stuff for each room. It is slowly becoming apparent even to me that owning music is an anachronism from the last century and totally unnecessary except in the car. In our area streaming is not reliable and I drive in country areas a lot.

I was given a Sysrock BR10 (essentially, the Festool job site radio) as a bonus when I bought my extractor and track saw. It packs a decent punch! It has 3.5mm in for later, when I hook up a PC in the workshop, and stream in Internet radio.
Speaking of which, anyone who enjoys 70's might enjoy this one: San Francisco's 70's HITS!

If I'm not doing something that requires concentration (ie electrical work) I usually listen to free audio books (53 so far this year) that I have downloaded from the public library system, or podcasts from various sources. If some concentration is needed I usually listen to music either from the almost 200 hundred CDs stored on my mobile, or downloaded using Spotify which our son gave us as a gift a few years ago. I haven't used Spotify much up until this year when I went looking for some soothing music to help me fall asleep and found a heap of stuff including podcasts and other music that interested me. Sometimes I just listen to my digital radio which I usually have on the ABC. All the VFDs my machines make analog radio impossible to listen to in my shed.
Spotify is interesting in that it takes note of what you listen to and then delivers you a weekly "recommend playlist". Normally I wouldn't give tuppence for something like this but I have to admit I am pleasantly surprised at what it proposes I would like. I reckon it serves things up that I find of interest more than 50% of the time. The most recent play list was 50 tracks of major Aussie hits from the 1960's onwards - not something I would normally listen to but it sure did bring back a lot of memories. They say the internet "knows you better than any other person except yourself" and this sort of thing sort of shows this has some credence.
I can get network service in the shed but only use it occasionally to transfer testing data from my mobile or tablet to my laptop up in the house. For a time I did keep the tablet in the shed as I don't use it much in the house but found myself wasting a lot of time checking forum, email etc - now shed time is shed time.

I have a google home mini on the tool wall.. it works great. loud enough for the garage. Will probably replace it with the lenovo smart clock so I can keep track of time. https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/smar...t-clock-review
