    Question Sorry Another Dusty Post

Hi guys, I am just starting out buying new and used gear and have purchased the DC - 3 Dust collector with added filter for my shed. I know there are a lot of posts and I have read quite a few, but I have some questions specific to my situation.

    1. I am unable to put my enclosure for the dusty outside and maybe not able to vent it outside. I have some coolroom panel 50mm thick, I was thinking of building a room fully enclosed with sealed door and popping a vent in either side of the end walls at the motor height to let air in and out. If I left the ceiling out would this be better? Will coolroom panel absorb noise ?

    2. I know the vents will let some noise out but surely it will be better?

    3. I know their may be some residual dust, enough to worry about? ( considering garage door will be open and dust mask on)

This is all a learning experience for me, I know whatever I do may not be perfect but I would like to make it as safe and less noisy as possible.

    Thanks
    Regards Dean

(broken record voice) In terms of dust, if you can't vent a DC outside then any internal enclosure won't do anything to remove airborne dust either generated and leaked by the DC (they all leak) sooner or later, or remove much of the dust that escaped into the shed during initial collection.

External venting of a DC is the single most significant thing a woodie can do in terms of dust.

The next most significant thing to note is that a stock DC3 with 4" inlets and 5" hose between the impeller and filter housing will not collect enough air or dust from most machines.
If you are aware of this then don't bother reading any further.
If you are not aware of this the the best you can hope for from this DC is a modification along the lines of the Sticky in the dust forum so that at least 6" ducting can be used..
Based on the size of your shed, in even a modified DC will not be able to keep it clean - that looks like at least a 3HP DC shed to me.
