    Default White floors?

    Hi folks,

Still trying to work out my plans for a workshop shed. At this stage I think I'm planning on coating the slab with.... something! An epoxy most likely.

Question - does anyone have any experience with a workshop with a bright coloured floor? I'm thinking that some sort of white would increase ambient light in the shed, and make it easier to find dropped screws, etc., but concerned looking down at darker machinery or a bench with a white floor in the background might make it harder to see what I'm working on.

    Cheers,

    Danny

We used a light blue/gray at the mens shed and I have to say it really does help find those nails and screws.

Thanks Bob! No issues with glare or contrast I guess?

No one has mentioned anything apart from it looks dirty very quickly.

Aircraft hangars often have white painted floors. Bounces the light up under the wings and fuselage. I don't ever remember it being a problem seeing what was on the benches. There was a hangar built in Vancouver Canada in the 60's and they use quartz sand in the cement for the floors. Saved the cost of repainting the floors every year or two and reflected the light. I wonder how those glass beads they mix into paint to make it reflective would work?

The more I think about it the more I think it might be worth a go. I'm not worried about whether or not it looks dirty (it will regardless of what colour it is!)... Will keep thinking about it - probably won't be a bright white (might be a bit too dazzling), just something from the lighter end of the spectrum, like Bob men's shed.
