It's on the weekend, so who's going?

I know Weisyboy, TGcreations and Stan have stalls, who else?

I want to and thinking seriously about it, just I don't need any more timber, but the chance of getting together with a heap of familiar faces is hard to resist. I was going to head up with the camper Friday and stay the night, or two

Unfortunately I only have Sunday spare, and dont want to go all that way on me lonesome, I posted in the transport section earlier to see if anyone else was heading up on Sunday from GC or Sth Bris and wanted some company but no bites as yet, oh well I guess I'll spend the time in the shed instead.

Sorry Rumnut, didn't see your thread, and another mod has joined the threads up. Yeh I was thinking of leaving tomorrow, so not much help to you.

Thats cool Neil, its the inlaws 60th wedding anniversary on Sat nite so I only have Sunday to go quess ya cant help bad luck haha

Yep, and it won first prize

Well it was a bit overcast today, but still pretty good. Left at around lunch time to avoid the typical Sunday traffic home and just got home.

Had a really great weekend, talking my head off to various people, but best of all was the nightlife. Hanging around campfires with acoustic guitars, electric guitars and banjos, plus the odd didgeridoo and a heap of odd ball woodies singing along and telling jokes

Brought back a few passengers, Mr & Mrs Red Rosewood Burl, their kids Aus Ebony and Yellow Cedar, and their cousin Camphor Laurel (some were gifts )

I still think this is the best wood show of them all. Primarily just wood and wood products, from the tree to the finished pieces, from pens through to high end art. The vendors appear more relaxed and most camp there overnight. Heaps of people there on both days that was great to see.

The show also had performers entertaining the crowd, mostly local people, including this musical group of young high school girls playing tone wood things (perhaps someone could tell me the proper name). They were made from wood of varying length, but then also had pipes to change the notes, varying from aggy pipe to storm water and sewerage pipes. They did around 10 songs, each lasting around 5-10 minutes and were amazing. The teacher was so obviously proud of her class and really got carried away on her plastic barrel. I went yesterday with my wife and we really enjoyed it. It was our first time at the Maleny woodworking show. The facilities were really civilised; the parking was stunning; I arrived at 12.30pm and got free parking 20 m away from the entrance. The layout of the show was country-fair-ish with interesting musicians and plenty of exhibits and shady areas to walk around.

Whilst, I was delighted to see a few favourite machinery sellers there like Carba-Tec, Arbortech and Gifkins plus the bloke who sells small hinges, chains, latches, etc for boxes, it was the actual woodwork on display that I found quite stunning.

Comparing the Maleny show with the big city working with wood shows, I would say that if seeing woodworking machinery and tools was the main reason for going, the big city shows are more biased to that but if you want to see some terrific woodwork and maybe buy some stunning pieces of furniture not seen in Harvey Norman, or maybe buy some other woodwork items and have a really nice day out, the Maleny show is a beauty.
