New Carba-tec spiral thicknesser

Know nothing about this unit or the seller, just came up in a search - and given the current model is (only) $150 more and has changed visually, it's probably bargaining territory.

Probably ok for a hobbyist but these lunchbox machines are as quiet as an Airbus A380 and with non existent dust extraction. I had a strait bladed version and couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

If the blades are reasonably sharp the spiral cutter actually isn't too bad for noise compared to one with straight cutters. It's more when your thicknessing wide and very dense timbers, like Jarrah, etc, that it tends to make a lot more noise.
The carbide cutters improve it even more.
I couldn't imagine not having one, as I'm sure a great many would agree with, they do the job!
Out of the 3 I've owned, I've never had a problem with dust extraction.

We’ve had the 13 inch lunchbox Carbatec ‘spiral head’ thicknesser at our Men’s Shed for perhaps 3 years. It has done a ton of work. Dust extraction is OK on ours - permanently hooked up to a dusty. It certainly is very noisy but a bit less so since we installed carbide cutters from SJE. Definitely need good hearing protection.
