First attempt and a Question
Well my back will not let me stand for long to do any woodwork of any kind, so I found some modelling ply left over from my days making radio controlled boats. Anyway I thought I would have a play with my new Birthday present and get a little practice in on using it.
This is the first result from it obviously I still need some practice then I will move on to having a go at shading small steps comes to mind, well at least I can do something even if it is not constructive.
How many on here use a pyrography machine if so how do you transfer you images to the wood I have done the pencil and reverse and go over again but found the lines very faint and had to re draw the image to see it correctly and also tried carbon paper but it leaves the blue showing around the edge of the line and can't sand it away.
How do you all transfer your patterns

My wife said that she uses graphite paper rather than carbon paper. This will leave a blackish line which tends to blend in with the burnt image lines. Make sure your pencil or whatever you are transferring with is very sharp so it only creates a thin line. Sometimes she will draw the main image this way and fill in the rest freehand if it is too intricate to transfer.
I have heard that you can print out your image with a laser printer and use a hot iron to press it onto the timber if it is flat.Dallas

Thank you Peter just a simple picture to start with that was after drawing a few lines just to get the feel of the machine.
Thank you Dallas. I am picking up a laser printer this afternoon from freecycle as I also heard you can transfer from them. I also posted the same question elsewhere and also got the graphite paper mentioned. I will let you know about the laser printer just have to remember to reverse the image especially if it has writing on it
